ABOUT MiSEPS

MiSEPS is the membership organization representing medical eye physicians and surgeons in the state of Michigan.

OUR MISSION

Encourage and promote high quality medical care for patients; to enhance the image of the practice of ophthalmology; to promote professional growth of Michigan ophthalmologists through continuing education; and to provide political leadership that ensures continuing high standards of medical eye care in Michigan.

ADVOCACY - MiSEPS is committed to an informed and educated public, and advocates in both Lansing and Washington, DC for the highest quality, affordable and accessible eye care for the citizens of the great State of Michigan.  Public awareness press releases are regularly distributed and include such topics as workplace, sports and fireworks safety, as well as promoting screening for Cataracts, Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy, Macular Degeneration, and all potentially blinding eye diseases.

EDUCATION - MiSEPS Annual Scientific Conference is a premier educational symposium intended for ophthalmologists throughout Michigan and beyond – designed to promote the highest quality, state-of-the-art patient care.  MiSEPS also promotes and supports Continuing Medical Education and Graduate Medical Education programming, by partnering with the Departments of Ophthalmology at William Beaumont Hospital, Henry Ford Health System, Michigan State University – Consortium of Osteopathic Residencies in Ophthalmology, University of Michigan – Kellogg Eye Center, and Wayne State University – Kresge Eye Institute.

SERVICE - MiSEPS participates and encourages public service.  The Society sponsors annual vision screenings and evaluations at St. Christine’s Soup Kitchen and Focus: HOPE in Detroit, for uninsured and underserved patients.  Local Physician practices and Residency programs partner with the Society for providing free follow-up care and treatment for those identified with disease.  MiSEPS also works jointly with the Michigan Governor for issuing a Proclamation each year in April as “Blindness Prevention and Services Month”.  Additionally, MiSEPS partners with the Henry Ford Health System – Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology.
